Commercial and trade directories — such as Pigot's, Slater's and Thom's — listed the merchants, professionals, gentry and tradespeople of Ireland's towns and cities through the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Because many were published at regular intervals, they let us track a family business or a household across the years, and place an ancestor at a particular address between the censuses.
