Emigration & immigration records

Records of those who left Ireland, and those who arrived.

Emigration shaped almost every Irish family. Passenger lists, departure and arrival records, and the immigration and naturalisation papers kept in destination countries — particularly the United States, Canada, Britain and Australia — can trace an ancestor across the water and often back to a precise place of origin.

These records frequently capture details recorded nowhere at home: a townland of origin, the name of a relative left behind, or a date that anchors the rest of the research.
